Director of the SCO RATS Executive Committee Meets with the Representative of UNODC

Director of the SCO RATS Executive Committee Yevgeniy Sysoyev met with the head of the Implementation Support Section of UNODC's Terrorism Prevention Branch Dolgor Solongo on October 31, 2017 at the headquarters of the Executive Committee of the SCO RATS.

During the conversation, Ms. Solongo shared information on the projects implemented by UNODC in the field of countering terrorism and violent extremism in various regions of the world. Among the priority areas, she specifically highlighted the urgent issue of the foreign terrorist fighters returning to the countries of origin and the need for adequate preventive measures in this regard. She briefly reported on the state of implementation of the UNODC project “Supporting Central Asian States to Strengthen National and Regional Frameworks for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (P/CVE)”. She also stressed the readiness of the UNODC to develop cooperation with the SCO RATS.

Director of the SCO RATS Executive Committee Yevgeniy Sysoyev noted the importance of participation of the UN Under-Secretary-General, UNODC Head Yury Fedotov, in the Fifth Scientific and Practical Conference of the SCO RATS (held on November 1-2, 2017, in Tashkent). He also expressed interest in building practical interaction and considering the possibility of joint implementation of projects. Besides, he shared information about the main activities of the SCO RATS and the results achieved.

During the conversation, the sides discussed the state of the cooperation between the SCO RATS and the UNODC, among others, and prospects for its development, including implementation of joint projects in the field of combating terrorism and extremism.

The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Directors of the SCO RATS Executive Committee Zhou Qing and A. Mukashev.

The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere.
