Jumakhon Ghiyosov, Director took part in the webinar “Afghan Peace Process and SCO”

On January 29, 2021, at the invitation of the Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI), Jumakhon Ghiyosov, the Director of the SCO RATS Executive Committee took part in the Webinar “Afghan Peace Process and SCO”.

The opening ceremony was addressed by Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Vladimir Norov, Secretary General of SCO.

As other profiles participating were Raashid Wali Janjua, Acting President of IPRI, Mirwais Yasini, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Syed Ali Asad Gillani, Ambassador of Pakistan to Republic of Uzbekistan, Pang Chunxue, Deputy Chief of Mission of People’s Republic of China to Pakistan, Eldor Aripov, Director of Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies, Fawzia Koofi, Member of Afghan Delegation for Intra Afghan Dialogue.       

Jumakhon Ghiyesov, Director of SCO RATS Executive Committee gave a statement entitled "The current landscape of threats - ISIS Khorosan Province". In his speech, he informed on the current operational situation in relation to the terrorist organization "ISIL Khorosan Province" and the threats posed by it to the security of the SCO area. He shared his opinion on further priorities for SCO-Afghanistan Contact Group and potential cooperation with the Afghani side on the issue of identifying terrorist fighters returning to the SCO member states.

There was an exchange of views on the issues of security and Peace Process in Afghanistan, as well as current role and prospects of Afghanistan in the field of regional integration.

The participants expressed their gratitude to the organizers of event - the Islamabad Policy Research Institute for the good preparation and conduct of the Webinar.

The event was held in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding.
