DIRECTOR ZHANG XINFENG OF SCO RATS MEETS WITH AMBASSADOR OF INDIA IN UZBEKISTAN

    On November 14, 2014, Zhang Xinfeng, Director of SCO RATS Executive Committee held talks with Vikran Doraiswami, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India in Uzbekistan.

    The Director highlighted the composition, mandate and functions, as well as the basic direction of the work of SCO, and particularly pointed out its role in maintaining peace and stability in Central Asia.

    Two sides exchanged views on important issues regarding regional security, noting the increasing threats brought by international terrorism forces to the stability in Central and South Asia, mainly referring to Islamic State and Taliban Movement.

    Both leaders maintained that strengthening counter-terrorism cooperation between SCO member states and observer states namely India conforms to the interests of both sides, which requires to further deepen mutual dialogues.

    The two sides also discussed the cooperative document between SCO RATS and Indian Ministry of External Affairs, which is currently in the final phase of preparation. Both sides agreed that the signing of the Protocol of cooperation will provide legal basis for cooperation in the fight against terrorism as well as better serve the work of SCO member states and India.

    The Talks were held in a friendly and mutual understanding atmosphere.
