On the meeting with Vladimir Voronkov, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism
On 14 May 2024, the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure of Shanghai Cooperation Organization hosted a meeting between Ruslan Mirzaev, Director of the SCO RATS EC, and Vladimir Voronkov, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism.
The Parties noted the positive dynamics of bilateral cooperation between the SCO RATS and the UNOCT over the past period since 19 February 2020, the date of signing the Memorandum of Understanding. At the same time, they emphasized the positive practice of holding joint regional events on topical issues of international terrorism.
During the meeting there was also discussed the problem of Afghanistan in the context of assessing current threats in the region.
As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to coordinate their activities in the period 2024-2026 by signing the relevant Joint Action Plan between the SCO RATS Executive Committee and the UNOCT. This plan is a working document for the implementation of the abovemetioned Memorandum of Understanding, which is the result of the accumulated experience of cooperation between the SCO RATS Executive Committee and the UNOCT during the four-year period after the formalisation of relations.
