Meeting held with the Regional Representative of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime
A meeting took place between the Director of the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Ularbek Sharsheev and the Regional Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Afghanistan, Central Asia, Iran and Pakistan Oliver Stolp on January 24, 2025.
During the meeting, participants exchanged views on the regional security situation, including emerging challenges and threats. In this context, they emphasised the need to take measures to deepen cooperation on improving security in the region.
To this end, the parties discussed the existing legal framework for cooperation with regards to deepening practical interaction on issues of drug trafficking and crime associated with international terrorism, such as financing terrorism through drug trafficking and nexus between illegal arms trafficking, organized crime and terrorist organizations.
After the meeting, the parties reached an agreement on the development of a Joint Action Plan for the coming years, having identified the main potential areas of cooperation to be included in the text of this document.
The heads of the parties instructed the responsible employees to hold an expert meeting to discuss practical steps to implement the agreed actions.
The meeting took place in an atmosphere of goodwill and constructive dialogue.
