Round Table held at the Executive Committee of the SCO RATS
The Executive Committee of the SCO RATS, with the organizational support of the Commonwealth of Independent States Anti-Terrorism Center and the Secretariat of the Collective Security Treaty Organization held a round table on the topic: “Cooperation in the CSTO, CIS and SCO space in the field of combating terrorism financing, including at the expense of proceeds from drug trafficking: promising forms and areas of development” on June 15, 2023. The event was held as part of the implementation of decisions taken as a result of the 7th meeting of the Permanent Expert Group of the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States Anti-Terrorism Center and the Secretariat of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
The event was attended by representatives of the following international structures: the Secretariat of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States Anti-Terrorism Center, the Coordination Service of the Council of Commanders of the Border Troops of the CIS Member States, the Bureau for Coordinating the Fight against Organized Crime and Other Dangerous Types of Crime in the Commonwealth Countries, the Committee of Heads of Law Enforcement Units under the Council of Heads of CIS Customs Services, Regional Office of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism. Representatives of the customs services of the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as Permanent Representatives to the SCO RATS and staff members of the diplomatic missions of the SCO member states also took an active part in the discussion of the agenda.
During the meeting, participants actively and professionally exchanged views on current threats in the field of combating drug trafficking and terrorism financing in the CSTO, CIS and SCO space. The participants also made a number of practical proposals to improve efficiency of joint activities of relevant organizations, both regional and international, with regards to addressing these problems.
The strengths of each agency which are important for synergies were highlighted. The successes already achieved in combating drug trafficking and transnational organised crime, which can become a platform for future victories in ensuring peace and security in our countries, were considered.
As a result, the importance of expanding and strengthening cooperation between international organizations and the SCO RATS Executive Committee on the most important and promising projects of organizations in the field of combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, as well as stepping up the joint work of regional and international organizations in the field of combating terrorism financing, including drug trafficking proceeds, was highlighted.
The participants noted the relevance of the event and its significant practical importance for successful work in the name of the well-being and security of our nations.
The meeting was held in an atmosphere of goodwill and constructive dialogue.
