ON DAESH ACTIVITIES IN IRAQ

In November 2022, Daesh militants (terrorist group, banned in the Russian Federation) carried out continuous attacks in various regions of Iraq.


On November 3, Al-Hashd al-Shaabi Shia militia fighters detained seven Daesh fighters in the central province of Salah al-Din.


On November 6, security forces reported the elimination of two Daesh members in the Chamchamal district of Sulaymaniyah province of Iraqi Kurdistan. Four more jihadists, including a woman, were captured.


On November 12, the military eliminated five Daesh militants in the province of Salah al-Din as a result of an Iraqi air force attack on terrorist positions. Iraqi intelligence services also managed to capture three terrorists 30 kilometers north of Baghdad. The detainees admitted that they took part in the massacres of civilians in the period from 2021 to 2022 and committed terrorist attacks against the Iraqi military.


On November 17, Iraqi security forces eliminated the leader of several Daesh cells in the western province of Anbar, H. M. Jasem al-Issawi, nom de guerre Abu Isa. He was responsible for subversive activities in the vicinity of the city of Ramadi. On the same day, the Iraqi security services announced the launch of the anti-terrorist operation entitled “Firm Will” with the aim of destroying Daesh cells in Mosul and the northern province of Ninewa.


On November 19, seven servicemen were killed and six injured in an attack by militants in the northern province of Kirkuk.


The General Directorate for Combating Terrorism in Iraqi Kurdistan detained even Daesh members on November 21 in Erbil. The Kurdish authorities handed the detainees over to the federal counter-terrorism service which wanted them. On the same day, the Iraqi Air Force attacked Daesh bases in the province of Kirkuk.
