Four troops died in a clash with terrorists in India

Four Indian Army troops were killed and as many injured in a clash with terrorists in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. ANI agency reported this with reference to the military.

The encounter took place in Machedi area of Kathua district after terrorists started shooting at a patrol vehicle. "The exchange of fire between troops and terrorists continues. More detailed information is expected," the statement said.

Kashmir has been a dispute between India and Pakistan since 1947, when British India became independent and split into two states along religious lines. There is no state border in Kashmir; its territory is divided by the Line of Control. In the Indian part, there are active groups advocating secession from the country. New Delhi accuses neighboring Pakistan of supporting extremists, and Islamabad denies these accusations.
