TTP militants carry out series of attacks on security forces in Pakistan
On Thursday, July 12, the Inter-Services Public Relations department of Pakistan Army announced the launch of a limited military operation in the Hassan Khel area of Peshawar in northwestern Pakistan.
According to the statement, Pakistani security forces were attacked by terrorists during the operation. Four security personnel, including two army troops and two policemen, were killed in the clash.
The statement noted that during the operation, security eliminated killed three militants who were in the house, including former local police chief Abdul Rahim. The operation in Khasan Khel continues.
Another attack on security forces took place in the Waziristan region, which belongs to the Pashtun tribal zone (the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan).
Five soldiers, including a captain in the Pakistani armed forces, were killed in the attack. The Pakistani army said in a statement that the militant attack took place in South Waziristan.
TTP resources also reported an attack on military personnel in Waziristan. The militants said the army convoy was ambushed, killing and wounding at least 30 Pakistani troops.
Another attack took place in Tank district in northwestern Pakistan, which borders Waziristan. In the course of the attack, the militants kidnapped three members of the local pro-government militia operating under the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Local police spokesman Abdul Salam Khaled confirmed that the militants succeeded in kidnapping three members of local paramilitary forces, adding that reinforcements had been sent to the area and an operation to track the militants was underway.
A day earlier, militants claimed responsibility for the murder of Ali Reza, a senior officer of the counter-terrorism forces in the city of Karachi, and his guards.
The attacks by TTP militants were a response to the ongoing operation of the Pakistani army, which is taking place simultaneously throughout the country. The Pakistani authorities have announced their readiness to eliminate local militant cells and have started large-scale deportations of Afghan refugees to their homeland as well.
