Reuters: Eight police officers, civilian killed in India blast

A police bus was blown up in the Indian city of Bijapur, killing eight police officers and a civilian driver, Reuters reported, citing a police statement.

The terrorist attack was allegedly carried out by representatives of a rebel Maoist group.

It is noted that several shootouts between police and militants of the group took place in the state of Chhattisgarh in recent months.

The Maoists, also called Naxalites, adhere to the ideology of a unique form of communism that is an interpretation of the teachings of Mao Zedong. They carry out terrorist attacks every year in several central regions of the country, killing hundreds of people.
