US asks Taliban to stop supporting terrorists in Pakistan

The US State Department addressed the Taliban, urging them to stop supporting terrorist groups operating in neighboring Pakistan. As the spokesman Matthew Miller said, Washington “has made it very clear that we will judge the current government of Afghanistan by its deeds, not by its statements,” Ariana News reports.

“The Taliban wants international recognition. This requires the Taliban to fulfill its obligations to the international community,” the official said.

That being said, the United States' primary interest in Afghanistan is to ensure that it never again becomes a haven for terrorists, especially those who wish to harm the United States, its partners or allies. “We maintain regular contact with Pakistani leaders as part of our partnership on counter-terrorism issues. We continue to discuss Afghanistan in detail,” Miller said.

Islamabad has repeatedly called on Kabul to take meaningful action against terrorists using Afghan soil to carry out attacks in Pakistan. For their part, Taliban leaders have repeatedly denied the accusations and said they would not allow any group to threaten other countries from Afghanistan.

This week, Pakistan's military high command was informed that terrorists operating from Afghanistan intend to carry out a series of attacks against the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. On April 18, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) department reported that Pakistani security forces eliminated seven terrorists who tried to cross the Pakistan-Afghan border in the North Waziristan region. On April 16, security forces discovered the group near the Ghulam Khan checkpoint.
