25 people convicted of terrorism and extremism in Kazakhstan in 2024
Chairman of the National Security Committee (NSC) of Kazakhstan Ermek Sagimbayev reported to the President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the performance of his agency since the beginning of this year, the press service of the president reported, Caravan.kz reports with reference to Interfax.
In particular, Sagimbayev reported on strengthening efforts to prevent terrorist and extremist activities in the country. “Based on materials from the National Security Committee, since the beginning of the year, 25 people have been convicted of involvement in terrorism and extremism, and another 13 were detained under pre-trial investigations,” the report notes.
According to the head of the National Security Committee, jointly with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, they suppressed activities of six criminal groups and arrested 35 people. “148 firearms, five IEDs, 32 grenades and 4,431 ammunition were eliminated and their illegal trafficking was prevented,” the report says.
In the area of state border protection, over 7 thousand offenders were detained, and 395 attempts to smuggle weapons and ammunition, drugs and other prohibited items were prevented.
