Eight people convicted of extremism and propaganda of terrorism in Akmola region
Seven citizens of Kazakhstan and one foreigner were convicted of extremism and propaganda of terrorism in the Akmola region, the press service of the National Security Committee (KNB) reports.
“The National Security Committee has completed a criminal investigation against seven citizens of Kazakhstan and one foreigner with regards to establishing a religious extremist organization and participating in its activities, as well as propaganda of terrorism. The investigation established that the convicts were spreading these narratives among those around them and inciting hatred of the secular way of life and the constitutional system,” said the statement published on Tuesday.
It is noted that during searches at their places of residence, a lot of religious extremist literature and other material evidence were confiscated.
It is indicated that three of the convicted persons had already been previously convicted of committing similar crimes.
“The military court of the Akmola garrison sentenced them to imprisonment for terms of one to eight years,” the statement said.
