Jaish al-Adl supporters detained in Iran

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, the elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces) detained several people in the south-eastern Iran province of Sistan and Baluchestan who assisted the terrorist group Jaysh al-Adl, which carried out a number of terrorist attacks in the country, Mehr agency reports with reference to a statement by the IRGC Quds Force headquarters in southeast Iran.

This morning, during a joint reconnaissance... operation with the General Directorate of Intelligence of the province of Sistan and Baluchistan, Quds Force fighters with the assistance of... residents of the region identified and detained several individuals involved in supplying and supporting Jaysh al-Adl terrorist group,” - the agency said in a statement.

According to Mehr, the detainees played a key role in two terrorist attacks carried out by this terrorist group in Sistan and Baluchistan: attacks on a police station in December last year and on the headquarters of the IRGC in April this year. The detainees were hiding in a religious school in the village of Pashamag in this province.

In early April, fifteen members of the Sunni group Jaysh al-Adl, recognized as terrorist in Iran, attacked two police stations in the cities of Rask and Chabahar in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchistan at night. The terrorists were eliminated during the operation of law enforcement forces.

At the end of February, the Mehr agency reported that Iranian security forces carried out an operation in the southeast of the country to detain one of the Jaysh al-Adl leader Ismail Shahbakhsh. During the operation the group leader and his accomplices were eliminated.

In mid-December last year, this Sunni group, fighting against the government of Iran, whose population is mostly Shia muslims, claimed responsibility for an attack on a police station in the Rask region in the province of Sistan and Baluchistan. The prosecutor of the city of Zahedan (provincial capital) Mehdi Shamsabadi said that this terrorist attack killed 12 police officers and injured seven others.
