The Kazakh National Security Committee makes arrests in Astana and Pavlodar

National Security Committee (NSC) officers made arrests in Astana and Pavlodar cities in Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz correspondent reports with reference to the NSC.

The National Security Committee, in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and with the coordination of the prosecutor’s office, detained three citizens of Kazakhstan on May 2 and 3 in Astana and Pavlodar, They are suspected of promoting terrorist narratives and participating in the activities of a religious extremist organization banned in the country.

Religious literature and other evidence were confiscated from the detainees. The suspects were previously convicted of committing ordinary and extremist crimes.

The investigation is being conducted under Articles 256 “Propaganda of Terrorism” and 405 “Organization and participation in the activities of a prohibited religious organization.”
