Three IS supporters convicted of preparing a terrorist attack in Cherkessk

As the “Caucasian Knot” («Кавказский узел») wrote, in April 2022, the FSB reported on the detention of three people in Karachay-Cherkessia on suspicion of connections with the Islamic State and preparation of a terrorist attack in the republic. During the search, components of an explosive device, new SIM cards, as well as a plan of the location of buildings in the center of Cherkessk were confiscated fr om them.

According to the case materials, the accused persons, “sharing terrorist ideology,” established contacts with militants in Syria via Telegram. After that, following their instructions, they arrived in Cherkessk, wh ere they rented an apartment and chose one of the administrative buildings as the target of attack. They then purchased materials to assemble an explosive device and were detained, TASS reported today, citing the FSB press service.

The Southern District Military Court found all three defendants in the case guilty of preparing for a terrorist attack, undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities, participating in a terrorist organization and illegal trafficking in explosives.
