Sri Lanka will investigate the involvement of four citizens in the IS
Sri Lankan intelligence agencies will conduct a thorough investigation into the possible involvement of four Sri Lankan citizens arrested in India in the IS terrorist network (the Islamic State terrorist group banned in the Russian Federation). This was reported by the Daily Mirror newspaper with reference to the Ministry of Defense of Sri Lanka.
According to the senior agency officials, Sri Lankan intelligence has requested additional information from its counterparts in India to corroborate information about the suspects and establish their possible links with the Islamic State. Once information is received from India, Sri Lankan authorities will immediately investigate and take further action.
On Monday, anti-terrorism authorities in the western state of Gujarat detained four Sri Lankan citizens at the international airport in the city of Ahmedabad on suspicion of links to IS. The arrest came a few days after a bomb threat was received at the airport. According to investigators, the suspects were allegedly waiting at the airport for their supervisor, who was supposed to instruct them to carry out a terrorist attack.
