Resident of Kabardino-Balkaria sentenced to 15 years for participation in ISIS and attempted terrorist attack

The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Kabardino-Balkaria resident Kantemir Nafedzov for participating in the activities of a terrorist organization and plotting a terrorist attack, the court’s press service reports.

Reportedly, it was established that the defendant was an adherent of the ideology of the Islamic State banned in the Russian Federation, took part in its activities, and swore a pledge of allegiance to its leader. Between July 7 and August 24, 2023, Nafedzov decided to commit a terrorist attack in the city of Nalchik.

It is noted that he started surveying administrative buildings and the Nalchik railway station, take video and photographs of infrastructure, acquired components for an explosive device and manufactured it, and later hid it in a cache which was later discovered by police officers.

The court sentenced him to 15 years in a maximum security colony.
