A participant in the attack on Budennovsk detained in the Moscow region
Another participant in the armed attack on Stavropol Budennovsk has been detained in Moscow. The investigation proved that a native of Chechnya, Khamzat Zoev, was a member of Shamil Basayev’s gang (included in the Rosfinmonitoring list of terrorists and extremists) in 1995 and took part in grave crimes, the press service of the Investigative Committee told RIA Novosti.
According to the investigation, on June 14, 1995, Zoev and other members of the group attacked organizations and residents of Budennovsk with weapons and explosives. This was when 129 people were killed, 317 were injured, and 1,586 were taken hostage. In addition, the bandits destroyed and damaged 198 cars, the Children's Art Center, the building of the central regional hospital, the building of internal affairs department, the city administration, as well as 107 private houses.
Officers fr om the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB took part in the arrest of Zoev. According to the intelligence service, this happened in the village of Pereshchapovo, Mozhaisk urban district of the Moscow region, wh ere he lived. The defendant was arrested by the court of Essentuki.
