Russian Aerospace Forces strike at militant bases in Syria
The Russian Aerospace Forces carried out strikes on five militant bases in hard-to-reach mountainous areas in the governorates of Homs and Deir ez-Zor, said the deputy head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties in Syria Major General Yuri Popov.
“The Russian Aerospace Forces launched strikes on five bases of militants who had left the al-Tanf zone and were hiding in hard-to-reach areas of the Al-Amur mountain ranges in Homs governorate of Homs and Al-Bishri in Deir ez-Zor governorate,” Popov said at a briefing in Wednesday.
He said that joint Russian-Syrian exercises have begun in the airspace of the Syrian Arab Republic and in a number of land areas, as well as in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea, in order to test measures to protect the territorial integrity of the country from internal and external threats in practice.
Popov also said that in order to counter the subversive and terrorist activities of illegal armed groups, the command of the Syrian armed forces, with the support of the Russian group of troops (forces), organized reconnaissance and searching operations in the mountainous desert areas of the governorates of Homs, Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor.
