Security forces detained another participant in the attack on Budennovsk in 1995
Law enforcement officers detained another member of the Shamil Basayev’s terrorist gang. It is a resident of the Khasavyurt district of Dagestan Kazbek Anasov. This was reported by the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
Anasov was detained with the assistance of officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB of Russia. He is accused of committing a terrorist attack, banditry, hostage-taking and murder. The investigation sent a petition to the court for his arrest.
The investigation established that Anasov voluntarily joined Basayev’s gang in the first half of June 1995. On June 14 of the same year, Anasov, along with other militants, attacked institutions and residents of Budennovsk in the Stavropol Territory. Thus, 129 people were killed and another 317 were injured. The gang took 1,586 city residents hostage. As a result of the attack, 198 cars, the Children's Art Center, the building of the central regional hospital, the department of internal affairs, the city administration and 107 houses were destroyed and damaged.
