The State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan detained citizens who studied in Syria and planned to continue terrorist activities in Kyrgyzstan
The intelligence services of Kyrgyzstan detained 5-6 citizens who had completed their studies in Syria and intended to continue terrorist activities in the country. This was announced by the Secretary of the Security Council of the Kyrgyz Republic Marat Imankulov speaking on Birinchi Radio. According to him, a criminal case has been opened and an investigation is underway.
“There is no direct threat now. Our law enforcement agencies are working in an intensified mode. Members of extremist organizations are also detained. Some renounce their membership voluntarily. The situation is under control,” he said.
In addition, Kyrgyzstan repatriated more than 600 people from Syria and Iraq.
“About 800 Kyrgyzstanis and their families were in Syria. Some died there, some escaped, and some are in prison in Syria and Iraq. We had to bring back their wives and children. There are about 60 people left in the camps,” he said. According to Imankulov, presently psychologists, representatives of the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Health, religious leaders, and theologians work with those who came back to Kyrgyzstan. They are undergoing rehabilitation.
“It was an order from the president. I support him. All government agencies participated in returning them. These are our citizens, good or bad. What is the children's fault? Who, if not the state, will take care of them?” - said Marat Imankulov.
