The court named the son of an ex-official as the organizer of the terrorist attack in Dagestan

The press service of the Supreme Court of Dagestan reported that a criminal group was created by the son of the ex-head of the Sergokalinsky district, Magomed Omarov, for committing terrorist attacks in the republic. On the evening of June 27, his alleged accomplice, suspected of involvement in the terrorist attack in Derbent, was taken into custody.

According to the Supreme Court of Dagestan, Osman Omarov demanded that his accomplices “recognize him as the sole leader of the gang and take an oath of allegiance to him.” “After this, members of the criminal group, united by common motives, started preparations to commit terrorist attacks in the Republic of Dagestan,” the Court’s press release states. As quoted by RIA Novosti: “After this, members of the criminal group, united by common motives, started plotting to commit terrorist attacks on the territory of the Republic of Dagestan,” says the Court’s press release (quoted from RIA Novosti).

Omarov started displaying his radical attitude several years ago. He became “very religious”, refused to go to the mosque in the Sergokalinsky district, grew a beard, got married and made his wife wear hijab. This was stated by the deputy head of the Sergokalinsky district for social issues and security Barkakadi Medzhidov, writes Gazeta.ru. Instead of the usual rural mosque, the man decided to go to a mosque in the Karabudakhkent region.

Magomed Omarov admitted that he was aware of the Wahhabi beliefs of some of his sons. During interrogation, he said that in recent years he had not maintained contact with them and did not consider himself a Wahhabist. Soon after this, six relatives of the ex-head of the Sergokalinsky district were arrested. As the head of the press service of the Supreme Court of the Republic, Zarema Mamaeva, clarified for RIA Novosti, on Wednesday six Omarovs with the patronymic Magomedovich were found guilty of “committing an administrative offense” and were sentenced to arrests for a period of two to 13 days. Presumably, we are talking about six sons.
