A man with a crossbow attacked a police officer near the Israeli Embassy in Serbia

On June 29, Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic declared a red alert level in the country due to the threat of terrorism. This happened shortly after a man armed with a crossbow wounded a law enforcement officer on duty at the Israeli Embassy, shooting him in the neck.

The wounded police officer eliminated the shooter by return fire and was immediately hospitalized in the intensive care unit of one of the Belgrade hospitals. Deputy Prime Minister of the Serbian Government and Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dačić visited him in the hospital after surgery.The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the incident was a terrorist act and that security measures had been strengthened in Belgrade.

As a precaution, several more people were arrested near police stations, and security measures were stepped up not only in front of government buildings such as embassies, government offices, but also in shopping malls and embankments.

Ivica Dačić later clarified that the attacker, 25-year-old Milos Zujovic from the city of Mladenovac near Belgrade, was a member of a radical movement.
