FSB officers prevent a terrorist attack in Maykop

As a result of carrying out a complex of operational and investigative activities in the Republic of Adygea, the FSB of Russia uncovered and suppressed the illegal activities of a native of Transcaucasia, a supporter of ISIS (foreign terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) F. Akhmadov.


It is reported that he planned to commit terrorist attacks against employees and administrative buildings of the national law enforcement agencies at the direction of foreign emissaries.


It is mentioned that the man was detained in the city of Maykop when attempting to implement his criminal plans.


During the inspection and subsequent search at his place of residence, security officers found objects intended to set fire to the car of an employee of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, a knife, device for secret communication with emissaries of a foreign terrorist organization in the Middle East region, and business cards with ISIS symbols for distribution at the site of the terrorist attack to intimidate the public.


During the interrogation, Akhmadov confessed that after destroying the police officer’s car he planned to commit a terrorist attack by setting fire to the administrative building of the duty station of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Maykop with Molotov cocktails. Subsequently, the attacker intended to assemble an improvised explosive device using freely available components to carry out a terrorist attack at a facility with a large number of people in the city of Maykop.


The investigative unit of the security agency investigated criminal cases on the grounds of crimes provided for in Article 30 (Preparation for a Crime and Attempted Crime), Article 205 (Terrorist Attack), Article 205.5 (Organizing the Activities of a Terrorist Organization and Participating in the Activities of Such an Organization), Article 205.1 (Promoting Terrorist Activities) of the Russian Criminal Code.


By the verdict of the Southern District Military Court, F. Akhmadov was found guilty and sentenced to 17 years in prison.
