The UN announces its intention to continue cooperation with Afghanistan
The international community intends to continue interaction with Afghanistan ruled by the Taliban movement. This was stated by United Nations Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo at a press conference in Doha.
Commenting on the results of the meeting of special representatives for Afghanistan, the deputy head of the global organization noted that “the discussion confirms the unity of the international community in its determination to continue interaction with Afghanistan.”
At the same time, DiCarlo emphasized that the process of interaction and the meeting of special representatives the Taliban delegation was invited to did not represent normalization or recognition of the radical movement. "I hope that the constructive exchange of views on various issues over the past two days has brought us a little closer to addressing some of the issues that are having such a devastating impact on the Afghan people," she added.
The meeting of special representatives for Afghanistan, which is held under the auspices of the UN, was the third since May 2023. The previous round of negotiations, held in February this year, took place without the Taliban. The movement's delegation refused to participate in the consultations because representatives of Afghan civil society were invited to the meeting.
