Taliban supporters that plotted terrorist attacks sentenced in Yekaterinburg

In Yekaterinburg, five members of a terrorist group that was plotting terrorist attacks to be committed in the city in 2021 have been sentenced. They were handed sentences ranging fr om 16 to 25 years in prison. This was reported by Kommersant with reference to the press service of the court.


It is reported that the convicts are followers of the Taliban movement (designated as terrorist and banned in Russia), and they were preparing terrorist attacks “against non-believers.” The cell's headquarters was located in Yekaterinburg, wh ere they produced about 3 kg of explosives.


The founders of the group, Russian citizen Abubakr Sangcharov and Tajik citizen Sanginmurod Musofirov, received the longest sentences:  25 years and 24 years in prison, respectively. They were accused of recruiting and creating a terrorist community. The remaining participants were prosecuted based on the article on participation in such a community.
