The National Security Committee, with the coordination by the prosecutor's office and the assistance of the police, carried out measures to suppress the activities of religious radicals in July this year in the cities of Astana, Shymkent, Atyrau and Zhambyl regions.

Operatives detained and took into custody four citizens of Kazakhstan and one foreigner suspected of participating in terrorist activities, promoting terrorism, organizing extremist activities and recruiting other people for these purposes.

A large amount of religious extremist literature and other material evidence were confiscated from their places of residence.

It should be noted that one of the suspects previously took part in hostilities in a foreign state and was convicted in Kazakhstan for this.

 

Information about regular use of “hard” drugs is being checked with regards to two more individuals.

A pre-trial investigation is underway under Articles 256, 257, 259 and 405 of the Criminal Code.

Other information in accordance with Part 1 of Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code is not subject to disclosure.
