Pakistan reports the arrest of one of the al-Qaeda leaders
The counter-terrorism department (CTD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Pakistan arrested one of the leaders of the Al-Qaeda terrorist network, Amin ul-Haq. This was reported by Reuters with reference to a statement from the department.
According to them, law enforcement agencies opened a criminal case against Amin ul-Haq, accusing him of plotting large-scale sabotage at important facilities in the province of Punjab. "In a significant breakthrough in the fight against terrorism, CTD, in collaboration with intelligence agencies, successfully apprehended Amin ul Haq, a senior leader of Al-Qaeda," the department said in a statement.
Amin-ul-Haq was arrested in Sarai Alamgir in Punjab. He has been a close associate of Osama bin Laden since 1996 and was involved in many terrorist attacks. “The arrest of Amin-ul-Haq is an important success in the ongoing fight against terrorism in Pakistan and around the world,” CTD emphasized.
International terrorist Osama bin Laden was eliminated during a CIA operation in May 2011 in the city of Abbottabad (Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province), which then led to a deep crisis in relations between the United States and Pakistan.
