Pakistan provides Afghanistan with data on terrorist groups
Pakistan has provided the interim government of Afghanistan with intelligence about terrorist groups based in the country. This was disclosed at a briefing for journalists by the official spokesman of the Pakistani Foreign Ministry Mumtaz Zahra Baloch.
“We have provided Kabul with our intelligence on terrorist groups based on Afghan territory and are in constant contact with the Afghan authorities on this issue,” the diplomat said.
There is growing concern in Islamabad over the continued use of Afghan territory for terrorist attacks on Pakistan. “These concerns were brought to the attention of a representative of the Afghan Embassy, who earlier this week was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with an attack by terrorists from the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan group (TTP, the Pakistani branch of the Taliban movement banned in the Russian Federation, designated as a terrorist organization ) on Pakistani soldiers in the city of Bannu, which resulted in the death of 10 of them,” Baloch said.
Relations between Islamabad and Kabul are effectively frozen due to Afghanistan's refusal to stop supporting the Afghan-based TTP extremist group which is responsible for arranging terrorist attacks in Pakistan. The group is seeking to establish an “Islamic system” in Pakistan. The TTP has been under UN sanctions since 2011 as an organization linked to al-Qaeda. There are up to 50 thousand militants in the TTP.
