A native of one of the Central Asian countries was detained In Essentuki. He was planning to carry out an explosion at a bus station, the FSB Public Relations Center reported.

“The terrorist pledged allegiance to the leader of a foreign terrorist organization and was preparing an attack on the transport infrastructure of the city of Essentuki using an improvised explosive device,” the press release says.

The defendant studied the bus station and the time of mass gatherings of people and selected a place to plant a homemade bomb. He acquired the components, chemicals and destructive elements to assemble it and hid it all in a cache in a rented garage. After the terrorist attack, he planned to go to Syria to join the terrorists there.

FSB officers succeeded in promptly identifying and detaining the attacker. Components of an explosive device were seized from the cache he had built, and terrorist propaganda materials were found at his home. In a video published by the FSB, the detainee admitted that he joined the Islamic State and followed its instructions.

Surveillance footage shows him shopping at a construction market, photographing posters at a bus station and entering a rented garage. Then the arrest is shown: the operatives throw the suspect onto the road and handcuff him. Before taking him to the car, one of the security forces carefully puts a baseball cap that fell off during the arrest back on his head.

A criminal case was opened against the man in relation with a terrorist attack.
