Kyrgyz authorities repatriated 22 citizens from Syria
The Kyrgyz authorities, with the support of the United States, repatriated 22 citizens of the republic who were kept in one of the refugee camps in Syria. This was reported by the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry.
“On July 19, 2024, another humanitarian mission was carried out to repatriate citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic staying in refugee camps in northeast Syria. As a result, 22 citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic (eight women and 14 children) were safely brought home,” the statement says.
As the Foreign Ministry assured, this humanitarian mission was carried out “with the direct support from the government of the United States of America.” “The Kyrgyz side expresses special gratitude to the American side, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and other international partners for the full assistance provided in conducting a special operation to citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic held in special camps in Syria return to their homeland, and logistical support for this humanitarian process,” - the message noted.
This is not the first time Kyrgyz citizens have returned from Syria. In February 2023, 18 women and 41 children with Kyrgyz citizenship were brought back to the country by a special flight. At the end of August last year, another 95 women and children were repatriated.
