Staff members of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of Kyrgyzstan detained a member of the Islamic State terrorist organization in Bishkek. He intended to sell a large batch of counterfeit US dollars. 24.kg news agency reported this with reference to the department’s press service.

According to the State Committee for National Security, he turned out to be a Kyrgyz citizen previously convicted of robbery in Russia. According to security officials, counterfeit dollars were imported from Turkey by radical Islamists in order to legalize them for financing terrorist activities abroad.

 

It was also established that the detainee was spreading the radical narratives of the Islamic State through messengers online.

Currently, the detainee is placed in the pre-trial detention center of the State Committee for National Security. Investigation and operational measures are ongoing to identify other persons involved in these crimes.
