Adherents of the religious extremist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir (banned in Kazakhstan) were detained in Shymkent. The city prosecutor's office reported this. Security forces, with the support of employees of the supervisory authority, discovered and busted a Hizb ut-Tahrir cell, detaining 22 people. According to the press service of the Shymkent prosecutor's office, supporters of the extremist organization held religious gatherings and worked on promotion of their values in March and April, trying to attract new adherents.

KNB officers seized prohibited religious literature, leaflets and equipment from the detainees.

A pre-trial investigation is underway.
