A foreign citizen was sentenced in Karelia to nine years in prison for organizing and aiding terrorist activity. TASS reported this on August 3 by, citing the regional FSB department.

No details about the foreigner were provided, although it was claimed that he had lived in Turkey for a long time and was detained in April 2023. He was accused of involvement in recruiting residents of Karelia to Imam Al-Bukhari Katiba terrorist organization. During the search, propaganda videos and special means of communication were allegedly found on him.

The sentence was handed down by the First Western District Military Court and entered into legal force.
