A special operation to detain citizens suspected of spreading narratives of radical Islam and terrorism was conducted in Astana, Almaty and West Kazakhstan regions. This was reported by the press service of the National Security Committee (NSC) of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

As reported by the agency, five people were detained and taken into custody with the sanction of the court. According to investigators, they took part in the propaganda of terrorism, incitement of religious hatred and recruitment of individuals to commit terrorist attacks.

During searches at their places of residence, weapons, ammunition, religious literature and other types of evidence were seized.

“It should be noted that two of the suspects had convictions for murder, robbery and disorderly actions. Another one had previously undergone training in foreign terrorist camps and participated in military operations on the territory of a foreign state,” the NSC said.

An investigation has been initiated.
