Recruited cellmates and promoted terrorism online: FSB officers for the Tyumen Region and the Yugra police, with the support of the Special Rapid Response Unit, detained a native of Azerbaijan, Russian citizen Aliyev Guseyn Shahin oglu. He committed crimes while serving a sentence for murder. He was arrested on the day of his release from prison.

The investigation established that Aliyev was involved in recruiting persons serving sentences in places of imprisonment to participate in the activities of a foreign terrorist organization. Besides, he was involved in promoting terrorism on the Internet.

 

The court found Aliyev guilty of committing crimes under the articles "Assistance to Terrorist Activity" and "Public Justification of Terrorism Using the Internet."

He was sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment, with six years to serve in prison, and the remaining years in a special regime colony. In addition, he will be given a restriction of freedom for a period of 1 year and 6 months.

As reported by the regional department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, a similar crime was discovered during the investigation of this case. Another convict, serving time in the same colony for crimes against property, was charged with participation in the activities of a terrorist organization. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison, five of which he will spend in prison, and then he will be transferred to a special regime colony.
