Militants attacked civilians in western Algeria, near the Moroccan border. Two civilians were shot dead in the Beni Snouss district.

After the attack, the assailants planted an explosive device at the crime scene. The military personnel who arrived at the scene were blown up by the mine that killed three soldiers.

Local media assume that the attack was carried out by a group associated with Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.

In recent months, the Algerian authorities have recorded an increase in terrorist attacks carried out by militants of foreign terrorist groups.

During the summer of 2024, the Algerian military eliminated four high-ranking commanders of Al-Qaeda militants.
