Activities of a womens' cell of a terrorist organization stopped in Tatarstan

FSB officers have thwarted the activities of a women’s cell of a terrorist organization in Tatarstan. Its members were spreading the ideology of the caliphate, the agency's Public Relations Center (PRC) reported.

“The FSB has put an end to the activities of a secret women’s cell of a foreign terrorist organization (FTO) banned in Russia that was functioning in the Republic of Tatarstan,” the PRC said in a statement received by Interfax.

According to the agency, “functionaries of the terrorist group were conducting targeted activities to spread terrorist ideology in our country, based on the doctrine of creating a so-called global caliphate."

“They were recruting residents of Russia into their ranks using conspiracy measures during meetings,” the statement said.

The FSB noted that "a lot of extremist literature banned in Russia, communications equipment, and electronic storage devices used in terrorist activities were found and confiscated at the places of residence of the FTO members."

"The Investigative Department of the Russian Federal Security Service for the Republic of Tatarstan has launched a criminal case," the Center for Public Relations added.

The agency did not specify how many people were involved in the case or what their status was.
