From now on, only Sharia law is in effect in Afghanistan. This was the statement made by the supreme leader of the Taliban movement Haibatullah Akhundzada.

“The current state system is based on the Koran and Sharia,” Akhundzada was quoted as saying by a Taliban representative in Balkh province, according to the Aamaj News agency. The Taliban leader claims that the negotiation process with the US in Doha was based on Sharia, “and not a single step was taken in these negotiations against religion.”

According to Akhundzada, previously, Afghan legislation had European, American and British origins, but now only the Koran (the holy book of Muslims), fiqh (a set of Islamic legal norms) and hadith (the legend of the life and words of the Prophet Muhammad) will serve as the basis of the legislative process in the country.
