US claims 37 militants linked to terrorist groups eliminated in Syria
Two airstrikes in Syria killed 37 militants linked to the Islamic State and al-Qaida extremist groups, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement.
Two of the dead were senior militants, CENTCOM stated.
U.S. Central Command said it struck northwest Syria on Tuesday, eliminating a senior militant from the al-Qaida-linked Hurras al-Din group with eight others.
He was leading military operations, the agency said.
CENTCOM also said it carried out a large-scale airstrike on September 16 against an ISIS training camp in central Syria.
That attack eliminated 28 militants, including "at least four Syrian leaders."
“The airstrike will disrupt ISIS’s ability to conduct operations against US interests, as well as against our allies and partners,” the statement said.
There are about 900 US troops in Syria.
