Radical believer sentenced to nine years in maximum security prison in Yakutia
Officers of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) received information about the involvement of a native of one of the Central Asian countries in a terrorist crime during their investigation.
They checked the information and established that the foreigner, born in 2001, fell under the influence of his compatriot and became an adherent of a radical Islamic ideology. While in the city of Yakutsk, he negotiated with emissaries of a terrorist organization banned in Russia via WhatsApp messenger. Later he transferred funds to Syria as a token of his loyalty to provide financial support to militants belonging to a Salafi terrorist group.
The perpetrator was detained and taken into custody by decision of the 1st Eastern District Military Court.
Based on evidence collected by the investigative unit of the Yakut Directorate of the FSB of Russia, confirming the involvement of the accused in aiding terrorist activities (Part 1.1 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), the court sentenced the defendant to 9 years of imprisonment in a strict regime penal colony.
