The Islamic State (IS, ISIS) is renewing its attempts to introduce terrorism to the UK, Politico reports, citing a report by MI5 Director General Ken McCallum. He stressed at a press conference that the group was not as strong as it was 10 years ago, but the threat remained significant.

Today, the Islamic State is not the force it was 10 years ago, but after several years of silence they have renewed their attempts to export terrorism, McCallum stressed.

He recalled that IS made a loud statement to modern society in 2014, when the its members captured a significant part of northwestern Iraq and eastern Syria. In the spring, McCallum continued, “an offshoot of ISIS carried out a deadly attack” at the Crocus City Hall concert hall in Moscow.

According to the head of British intelligence, this was a “brutal demonstration of the capabilities” of the terrorists. In summary, McCallum said that over the past month, MI5 had received numerous cases, where more than a third were in some way related to the activities of terrorist groups.
