Taliban urges international community to remove them from terrorist lists
The Taliban movement is calling on every country to remove it from the list of terrorist groups, as Russia will soon do. This was stated by the deputy official spokesman of the movement Hamdullah Fitrat.
“We welcome Russia's decision to remove the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (the name of the state used by the Taliban) from the list of banned organizations. This will be an efficient step to foster development of relationships. The Islamic Emirate believes in cooperation and calls on other countries to take similar measures,” TASS quotes Fitrat as saying.
On October 4, the special representative of the Russian president for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov said that the fundamental decision to remove the Taliban from the list of terrorist organizations had been made at the highest level, but it was necessary to follow certain legal procedures. Earlier, the director of the Russian FSB Alexander Bortnikov said that Moscow saw the Taliban's readiness to fight ISKP, the most dangerous wing of Islamic State terrorist group.
On October 7, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed that the Taliban could be removed from the list of banned organizations in the foreseeable future.
