Terrorist attack planned in Aktau: National Security Committee shares details

A Kazakhstan citizen has been sentenced to imprisonment for attempting to commit a terrorist attack, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing the press service of the National Security Committee (NSC).

The sentence came into force on October 19. This person, a resident of Aktau, was accused of attempting to commit a terrorist attack and promoting terrorism. The Aktau City Court sentenced him to 18 years in prison.

“It was established that in order to commit a violent attack, he acquired components to make an improvised explosive device, including striking elements, such as bolts and nails,” the report says.

It was also indicated that the offender chose the buildings of public institutions in the Mangistau region as objects of attack and studied the area using photos and video recordings.

"It should be noted that the offender had previously been convicted of murder," the NSC added.

Recall that in April 2024, the NSC announced the prevention of a terrorist attack in Aktau.
