CSTO speaks of the threat of terrorism spreading in Central Asia
The threat of the spread of terrorism in the Central Asian region persists, but the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) manages to maintain control. This was stated by CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov at a meeting of the secretaries of the CIS security councils in Moscow.
"The danger of the spread of terrorist activity, illegal migration and illegal arms and drug trafficking in the Central Asian region persists. Despite the severity of the issue, we manage to maintain control in this part of the CSTO's area of responsibility," TASS quotes him as saying.
As the Secretary General noted, the organization continues to monitor challenges and threats related to the Afghan knot and coordinate efforts to counter them using the capabilities of the working group on Afghanistan under the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers, where representatives of the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center and The Coordination Service of the Council of Commanders of the CIS Border Troops participate, among others.
