Eleven supporters of a terrorist organization sentenced in Fergana region of Uzbekistan
In Kokand, 11 members of a terrorist organization were sentenced to imprisonment for terms of 6 to 12 years.
According to the press service of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan, residents of Kokand and the Uzbekistansky district of the Fergana region, who are members of the Katibat al-Tawhid wal-Jihad group, held lectures of an extremist nature in one of the local catering establishments in 2021–2023. They were discussing the overthrow of the state system and establishment of a caliphate in the country.
Many of them were planning to go to fight in Syria. The convicts also were inviting other citizens to their meetings.
In the summer of 2023, two of them transferred 3 thousand dollars to a native of Kokand who was involved in the activities of a terrorist organization in Syria.
The Kokand City Criminal Court found them guilty of committing crimes under Articles 155-3 (Financing Terrorism), 159 (Encroachment on the Constitutional Order), 244-1 (Production, Storage, Distribution or Display of Materials Containing a Threat to Public Safety and Public Order) and 244-2 (Creation, Leadership, Participation in Religious Extremist, Separatist, Fundamentalist or other Prohibited Organizations) of the Criminal Code.
