IEA comments on the idea of creating a security belt around Afghanistan
There is no need to develop a plan to create a security belt around Afghanistan, the official spokesman and press secretary of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) Zabihullah Mujahid declared.
"Afghanistan is completely safe, so such belts are not needed, and drugs have been completely eliminated and banned in Afghanistan. In this case, expressing concern does not benefit anyone. We assure that Afghanistan will not allow its territory to pose a threat under any circumstances," the Tolo TV channel news portal quotes an excerpt from the IEA press secretary's statement.
Mujahid called the statements about illegal drug trafficking and arms smuggling from Afghanistan false. According to Mujahid, "unfortunately, sometimes citizens of other countries arrive in Afghanistan and it is them who create a somewhat insecure situation."
Earlier, the CIS Executive Committee supported the CSTO initiative to establish a joint working group to create a security belt around Afghanistan. This was stated by CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev at a meeting of the secretaries of the security councils of the Commonwealth states in Moscow.
The plan to create a security belt around Afghanistan was first proposed in January 2022 by Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon, Tolo news indicates.
