17 soldiers killed in clashes with Boko Haram in Chad

At least 17 Chadian soldiers were killed in an attack by the Boko Haram terrorist group on a military post, the Associated Press (AP) reported, citing the national armed forces. During the battle, the military eliminated 96 attackers.

The attack took place in the Lake Chad region on November 9.

AP recalls that in 2024, Boko Haram and the Islamic State group stepped up attacks in the Lake Chad region. The surge in violence follows a period of calm that the Chadian Armed Forces achieved in 2020, conducting a successful operation against extremist bases there. In late October, 40 soldiers were killed in a night attack on a base in western Chad. After that, the authorities launched an operation against Boko Haram.

This organization, which emerged in 2002, initially was only operating in northeastern Nigeria. However, its activities eventually spread to Cameroon, Niger, and Chad.
