A militant from Kazakhstan who fought in Syria voluntarily surrendered to Kazakh National Security Committee (KNB)

A Kazakh citizen who fought in Syria on the side of extremists was detained by Turkish police. According to the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, several years ago the Kazakh citizen went to Syria and joined one of the armed groups.

The security agency did not specify which group he joined; it just indicated that he was suspected of involvement in a foreign terrorist organization.

Later, the man moved from Syria to Turkey. He was detained in Antalya by local police.

"He decided to voluntarily return to Kazakhstan, and he is ready to bear criminal liability envisaged by law," the press service of the National Security Committee reported.

The former participant in the civil war in Syria was taken to Almaty, and a pre-trial investigation is underway.
